My Favourites from 'Yours Truly': Ariana's Nostalgic Debut

'Yours Truly' Finalised Album Cover (2013)

'Yours Truly', originally going to be named 'Honeymoon Avenue' or 'Daydreamin'', is Ariana Grande's timeless debut album published in 2013. The album contains twelve songs, reduced from twenty during the time of production. This album was created at the beginning of Grande's transition from working as an actress for Nickelodeon (as 'Cat Valentine' in the shows 'Victorious' and 'Sam & Cat') to becoming a singer. The album went through so many changes, from the cover and name itself and even the songs that were recorded! The first cover featured Ariana with a pink background on a bed of flowers, but was changed to a black and white cover. The first album cover seemed very 'Cat Valentine' to me, and so the album cover change is appreciated as it gets to show Ariana's true personality separate from her acting career.

The album's opening song 'Honeymoon Avenue' conveys Ariana's struggles with being in a failing relationship and yearns for it to return to the 'honeymoon' phase, hence the name of the song. The lyrics focus a lot on Ariana feeling like she's stuck in some sort of 'traffic' on 'honeymoon avenue', suggesting that the relationship is slowing down and that her partner is not making any changes for the better to move the relationship forward. The song contains beautiful vocals, unique emotional lyrics and a bittersweet tone, making it one of my personal favourites from the album! 

'Tattooed Heart' is a slow and romantic track that Ariana recorded with stunning vocals despite having a lung infection! In my opinion, I would say the name 'tattooed heart' suggests that Ariana is wishing for someone to keep her name in their heart forever. The lyrics are straight forward and are about how she has fallen for the one she is singing about and is ready to move past the awkward and shy stage of love and into a comfortable, long lasting relationship. The slow pace of the track makes it emotional and very easy to listen to.
