A Dive into 'Dangerous Woman': The Evolution of Ariana

'Dangerous Woman' album cover (2016)

'Dangerous Woman', originally to be called 'Moonlight', is Ariana Grande's third album and was released in May of 2016.  The album has 15 tracks that have a more mature theme. This album was Ariana's first album to have a 'parental advisory' logo on it due to this. I personally enjoy all the songs on this album, but I really want to talk about 'Dangerous Woman' and 'Jasons Song (Gave it Away)'!

'Dangerous Woman' is personally one of my favourite songs released by Ariana as it was really different from previous songs. It's extremely catchy and has great guitar at the end. The lyrics are really powerful and really shows how Ariana has grown to become a lot more confident and trusts her own judgement. She conveys that by embracing her true self, she has become a 'dangerous woman'.

'Jason's Song' is really interesting to me as it strays from Ariana's usual theme of romance and instead shows her growth when it comes to taking back control of her work in the music industry. The lyrics "no slave to your decision" tells me that she once had to always follow the instructions and decisions of her bosses when making music and this restricted her creative freedom. "...Get the hell away from those who block my vision" is also a lyric I find empowering as it shows that Ariana clearly had her own creative ideas when making music for previous albums but was forced not to go through with them due to the demand of her bosses. When it comes to making music as personal as Ariana's, there should be complete creative freedom when it comes to expressing her stories and emotions. This song shows how as she has gotten more famous, she has become more confident and eager to not let others tell her what to write and sing. This ties into her becoming a 'Dangerous Woman', a woman who is strong enough to stand up for what she wants and doesn't let anyone walk over her. This song also makes me think about her previous albums and I sometimes wonder how much freedom she was given with previous songs, and how much of the lyrics have been changed due to a lack of freedom. I find other songs such as 'Moonlight' and 'Into You' to be way catchier, however the I couldn't avoid talking about the lyrics of this song as it is so interesting to me! Overall, 'Dangerous Woman' is definitley one of my favourite albums of all time.

That's all for this blog post, my next post will be about another one of my favourite albums 'thank u, next'! Make sure to not miss out!
